Do Waterproof Running Socks Really Exist?
Until about a year ago I had never heard of waterproof running socks. I always wore Gore-Tex running shoes when it was wet, but they were not always up to the job. I would go through a large puddle (or flood!) and they would fill with water then slosh around for the rest of my run.
Then while reading a post on an ultra running forum on Facebook, I saw someone recommending waterproof running socks. ‘What?’ I thought. ‘Waterproof running socks? Surely such a thing doesn’t exist!’ But I was very wrong. I now own waterproof running socks of my very own and they are brilliant.
No need for Gore-Tex running shoes anymore. Instead I wear lighter running shoes that drain well, along with waterproof socks, and find this combination works much better.
Are Waterproof Running Socks Uncomfortable?
No! It’s easy to imagine waterproof running socks would feel like plastic on your feet, but fortunately this is not the case. They are made of three layers, an outer one designed to get wet, a middle waterproof layer, and an inner soft layer for comfort and breathability. Wearing waterproof socks feels much like wearing walking socks.

Are Waterproof Running Socks Worth the Money?
Admittedly, waterproof running socks cost quite a bit more than normal running socks, but I definitely think they’re worth it. Having wet, cold and wrinkly feet isn’t pleasant, and waterproof running socks will keep you more comfortable outside in the rainy weather.
You may find you love your waterproof running socks so much you don’t just keep them for running. They are also great for hiking, working outside, cycling, fishing…
You will have no excuse to stay in when it’s tipping it down!
